Backyard Spices.

Averrhoa bilimbi. August 2010.

Kamias, (binomial name Averrhoa bilimbi), is a fruit-bearing tree commonly found in every Filipino backyard. The fruit has a distinct sour taste, and is usually added as a flavoring for dishes like sinigang. My grandmother uses this whenever she steams galunggong or tambakol.
